Priya joined Dr. Chaker’s lab at the Institute of Functional Genomics of Lyon as a PhD student in 2025. Prior to starting her PhD, she worked at the National Centre for Biological Sciences, where she focused on genetic engineering approaches to develop transgenic mouse models using CRISPR-Cas9 technology. She completed her Master’s degree in Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering at Panjab University, where she developed a strong interest in the role of stem cells in the adult brain. Her PhD project investigates how the adult brain adapts to new physiological demands during pregnancy in mice. More specifically, she focuses on adult neurogenesis, an often-overlooked layer of brain plasticity. Her work aims to understand how adult neural stem cell proliferation is triggered and coordinated between the two main neurogenic regions of the brain during gestation and whether this process is regulated by neuronal circuits. To study these mechanisms, she uses approaches including 2D confocal and 3D light-sheet imaging. Outside the lab, Priya enjoys travelling and adventure sports, especially hiking and climbing.
